There is a bug with re hiring her as a follower but i had her as a steward and was able to re recruit her as a follower. Shame you can't marry her as she is really nice, but she really does need to see some sun. Dialogue is pretty much the same with added steward talk. How did you get her as a Steward? I'm not too familiar with the process.

I have used him several times as a steward for that quest and never had any problems with quest progression. Either that, or try to plant some crops before speaking to him again to see if that will fix the issue.I did find a workaround though. Only hire one steward and once you've bought all the things you need/want for you house, then you have him/her follow you to another property and make them the steward there.
